Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes AI is an important weapon in the fight against AI-generated misinformation. He also calls for more advanced AI development and the construction of energy-efficient data centers.

At an event on September 27 at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C., Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the need to use AI to combat its own negative impacts, especially the problem of misinformation.

“AI has to fight its own dark side,” Huang said. He explained that AI can generate fake news very quickly, so we need to use AI to stop its spread. He compared this to fighting cyberattacks. Just as cybersecurity must constantly evolve to combat new threats, AI must also evolve to prevent the dangers it poses.

Huang's call comes amid growing concerns about fake news generated by AI, especially as the US presidential election approaches in November. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, nearly 60% of Americans are concerned that AI will be used to spread fake news about presidential candidates.

Additionally, about 40% of those surveyed said AI would be used primarily for bad purposes in the election, while only 5% said it would be used for positive purposes. These concerns were further compounded by reports on September 24 that Russia and Iran were using AI to alter the content of Vice President Kamala Harris’ speeches.

AI consumes a lot of energy?

Huang also predicts that AI will require a lot of energy in the future. According to the International Energy Agency, data centers currently account for about 1.5% of global electricity consumption.

But Huang predicts that future AI models will require 10 to 20 times more energy as they develop. He explains that future AI will learn from AI, which requires processing huge amounts of data, resulting in more energy consumption.

To solve this problem, Huang proposes building data centers near places where there is abundant but difficult-to-transport energy. This would help take advantage of wasted energy and allow data centers to operate more efficiently.

Huang also called on the US government to actively participate in the development of AI. He suggested that each government department, especially the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense, should use AI in their operations. He also proposed building an AI supercomputer to promote research and innovation in this field.
