The Bank of England and the UK financial regulator have launched a sandbox to explore distributed ledger technology (DLT) in the financial securities sector.

- The Digital Securities Sandbox (DSS) was announced on 30 September for firms to explore the benefits of DLT.

- The FCA believes that the technology can improve the efficiency and transparency of markets.

- The DSS will facilitate the trading and issuance of digital securities in the UK.

- The programme will run until December 2028.
