Check Point Research has uncovered a crypto wallet drainer that stole more than $70,000 in five months on the Google Play Store using “advanced evasion techniques.” The fake app pretended to be the WalletConnect protocol, known in the crypto world, and garnered more than 10,000 downloads.

This incident marks the first recorded case of a drainer targeting mobile users. The app was released on Google Play on March 21 and remained undetected for five months. Users were tricked into connecting their wallets and their assets were silently drained.

Such incidents show the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals. Users should be careful about the apps they download and app stores should improve their verification processes. What do you think about this? Share in the comments!
