A fraudulent cryptocurrency wallet app that was listed on the Google Play Store has cost users an estimated $70,000. The fake app was cleverly disguised as the reputable web3 crypto protocol WalletConnect and tricked users into directing them to a phishing website that cunningly stole their funds when they tried to "connect their wallet." The scammer's efforts were sadly successful, resulting in 150 victims falling prey to the fraudulent scheme and downloading the malicious app over 10,000 times. Fortunately, Google has since removed the fake app from its store, putting an end to its scamming activities.
