Tania Consentino, president of Microsoft in Brazil, spoke about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) beyond innovation. The interview took place during the Microsoft AI Tour in São Paulo, this Thursday (26).
The executive stated that big tech is already using AI to create and develop projects aimed at combating poverty, mitigating global climate risk, social inclusion and, above all, ensuring diversity in all sectors of society.
AI can cause harm to society, but by knowing the risks, we can mitigate this for the market, Tania recalled.
Drex and AI
Additionally, the only company to be in five of the Central Bank's 16 Drex consortia, Microsoft is using AI to test privacy and security solutions.
The Central Bank is looking for the best or group of best solutions. The big issue here is combining privacy and scalability, explains the executive.
We have reached a point where when you reach a certain volume of transactions, the technology collapses, because it cannot scale any further. This is exactly the moment of discussion we are in now, he adds.
It is worth remembering that in July, big tech presented Zero Knowledge Proof, a privacy tool that has already begun to be tested in the Drex pilot.
We are exploring AI models. It is a very interesting combination of solutions. But we have not yet reached the final solution. If the challenge were only privacy, we would have the solution. The same would happen if we only thought about scalability. Combining the two, with the volume of transactions that we expect at Drex, would require a robust solution. And that is what we are testing at the moment, he explains.
Microsoft plus Brazil
In Brazil for 35 years, Microsoft has invested heavily in education to encourage the use of technologies such as AI.
Almost 13 million people have completed some course at Microsoft in Brazil, Consentino highlighted.
Furthermore, big tech has courses aimed at minorities and black women, for example.
Big Tech wants to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030
By 2030, we want to achieve zero carbon emissions. By 2050, we aim to reduce this number to negative. We know that data centers and LLMS, for example, demand a lot of energy.
Because AI and new technologies are so energy-intensive, Tania said the company has been buying carbon credits. “In the future, we want to be self-sustainable,” she said.
