Gary Gensler: I don't think Bitcoin is a security

The much-criticized chairman of the SEC, Gary Gensler, stated on a television program that he does not think Bitcoin is a security and has said this before. Gensler said, "This is why people can invest in Bitcoin through ETFs."

The chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, said again after a long time that Bitcoin is not a security.

"Crypto has a trust problem"

Gensler, who was a guest on the Squawk Box program on the US channel CNBC, stated that the crypto world has a trust problem:

"The important thing here is to raise funds and receive investment. However, you have to report this to the SEC. There were companies that took advantage of people's interest and raised money but did not report it. There are thousands of altcoin projects in the crypto world. I do not want to be prejudiced against any of them, but there are also scammers and thieves. The crypto world is experiencing a trust problem”

“I don’t think Bitcoin is a security”

Gensler also responded to the question about Bitcoin as follows:

“I don’t think Bitcoin is a security. I’ve said that before. The SEC chairman before me also said that. That’s why people can invest in Bitcoin on regulated exchanges through ETFs”

The SEC chairman stated that he could not answer the question of where Bitcoin will be in the coming years.
