Sony to launch its own $ETH Ethereum-based #blockchain network and list $ASTR Network on all its platforms will kickstart Astar Network.

Several Sony subsidiaries, including Sony Music, the Sony Innovation Fund and its gaming headset division Inzone, will be among those participating in the incubation program.

Sony announced the Soneium blockchain on August 23 as a layer-2 blockchain on Ethereum.

The project is being developed using OP Stack, a modular, open-source framework created by the Optimism Foundation.

Soneium will leverage Optimistic roll-up technology, which involves bundling multiple transactions and processing them off-chain.

Soneium was launched in collaboration with Startale Labs, founded by Sota Watanabe, director of Sony Block Solution Labs.

Astar Network, also co-founded by Sota Watanabe, has been selected as the base infrastructure provider for the Sonieum testnet launch.

The Sonieum testnet will leverage Astar Network’s zkEVM to integrate its assets and underlying infrastructure to increase initial liquidity on the new chain.

Major Web3 players including Circle, Alchemy, The Graph, and $LINK Chainlink, as well as Optimism, have been announced as early experimenters of the upcoming blockchain.
