At least 492 people, including 35 children and 58 women, have been killed in relentless Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, the country's health ministry said Sunday, citing the state news agency NNA. The ministry said the number of people injured had reached 1,654. The death toll is the highest since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war. In a statement, the Israeli military said it had carried out some 650 airstrikes in the past 24 hours, hitting more than 1,100 Hezbollah targets in southern and eastern Lebanon, where the group has strongholds. The Israeli military's airstrikes have caused widespread destruction in Lebanon, with many buildings, including residential homes and hospitals, damaged or destroyed. The attacks have also displaced thousands of people, who have fled their homes to escape the violence. The United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, but both sides have so far rejected the call. The UN has also warned that the ongoing violence could lead to a humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
