• Donors from Wall Street, Silicon Valley and Hollywood played a key role in Vice President Kamala Harris' August fundraising, giving Democrats a financial advantage over Donald Trump ahead of the runoff election.

the Fortune Magazine reports that Vice President Harris raised $361 million in August, bringing the Democrats' total to $404 million. Trump's campaign, meanwhile, raised $130 million, but spent $32 million more than it raised, largely due to an aggressive ad campaign.

though they're close in the polls, Harris leads in fundraising. Her fundraising campaign included high-profile events in San Francisco and the Hamptons and tapped into California's rich donor base.

Among Harris's major backers are Bruce Kirsch of Oaktree Capital, Robert Stavis of Bessemer Venture Partners and #Ripple Labs co-founder Christian Larsen, who contributed $1 million in #XRP #cryptocurrency . Hollywood celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson and Frances McDormand have also donated.

the cryptocurrency sector, meanwhile, support for Trump is growing, with #Elon Musk donating $289,100 to the National Republican Congressional Committee. Other notable donors include hedge fund managers Paul Singer, Marc Andreessen and casino magnates Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta.
