Several ancient Bitcoin addresses suddenly wake up after more than 15 years and move hundreds of BTC.

Whale watching bot Whale Alert reports the sudden awakening of five long-dormant Bitcoin wallets that transferred a total of 250 BTC on Friday, worth more than $15.9 million at the time of transfer.

According to digital asset tracker Lookonchain, five wallets are connected to Bitcoin miners, and each received 50 BTC in January or February 2009.

"Note that many miner wallets that have been inactive for over 15.5 years are transferring BTC... These wallets received 50 BTC as a mining reward per block back in 2009."

According to Bitinfocharts, one of the ancient Bitcoin wallets first received 50 BTC on February 2, 2009, and only moved them on Friday, making a profit of $3.17 million.

Another wallet received 50 BTC on January 31, 2009 and transferred the coins on Friday, making a profit of $3.17 million.

The third wallet also received 50 BTC on January 31, 2009 and transferred them on Friday, making a profit of $3.18 million.

The fourth wallet received 50 BTC on January 31, 2009 and transferred the coins on Friday, making a profit of $3.18 million.

The fifth wallet received 50 BTC on January 29, 2009 and moved the coins on Friday, making a profit of $3.18 million.

In 2009, Bitcoin was trading well below $0.01, indicating that long-dormant wallet holders had made a profit of over 8,000,000,000%.
