Coinbase’s “Stand With Crypto” initiative may have registered 121,000 people to vote in the 2024 US elections. The platform’s voter registration tool has seen 17,500 users click on it since September 4, according to Cointelegraph. In total, 121,000 crypto advocates have used the tool since 2023.
“Stand With Crypto” allows users to check their polling place and registration status by entering their email address. However, it is unclear how many users are already registered or newly registered.
The bus tour, which brought together crypto enthusiasts with rallies in Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC, concluded in DC on September 18. The tour is one of the latest efforts to encourage crypto-focused voter turnout in the 2024 election cycle. Crypto-backed political action committees (PACs) have contributed millions of dollars in support of pro-crypto congressional candidates and media buys against anti-crypto ones.
It’s unclear how many of the approximately 240 million U.S. citizens who will vote in 2024 will vote based solely on a candidate’s crypto policies. According to a 2023 Federal Reserve report, 18 million U.S. adults may hold or use cryptocurrencies.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump have different approaches to crypto. Trump has called for all remaining Bitcoin in the U.S. to be mined, while Harris has remained silent on crypto assets, but an advisor has said she would support policies that support the industry’s growth.
