👮♀️ U.S. Police Uncover $243M Gemini Heist
👀 According to blockchain detective ZachXBT, participants in the August heist of one of Gemini's lenders, in which $243 million in crypto assets were stolen, have been arrested in Los Angeles and Miami.
➡️ The perpetrators, using aliases Greavys, Wiz, and Box, posed as support agents from Google and Gemini, convincing the victim to reset their two-factor authentication (2FA) and transfer funds to a compromised wallet. Additionally, they tricked the victim into giving access to Bitcoin wallet private keys.
➡️ The breach of the Gemini account netted the attackers 74.22 BTC, while another 4064 BTC were stolen from the wallet. The stolen funds were then split and transferred to 15 exchanges.
➡️Currently, most of the stolen funds are frozen, and the hackers have been arrested.
