According to Jinshi.com, Assistant Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Jones, said that an industry project on central bank digital currency (CBDC) at the wholesale level and tokenized commercial bank deposits will be launched.
Jones said the RBA will commit to a three-year digital currency research project and give priority to wholesale central bank digital currency.
He pointed out that wholesale central bank digital currency has greater economic benefits than retail central bank digital currency. The launch of retail central bank digital currency will be decided by the government and requires legislation.
