**Hong Kong to Unveil AI Policies for Finance Sector by End of October**
Hong Kong is set to introduce new policies on artificial intelligence (AI) in the finance sector by the end of October. The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) is drafting guidelines for ethical AI use in traditional trading, investment banking, and cryptocurrency markets. The framework, expected to be finalized during Hong Kong FinTech Week (Oct. 28 - Nov. 1), aims to boost AI adoption while ensuring responsible use.
The FSTB is reviewing global AI practices to shape effective policies. Recent US-China tech tensions have limited AI tools like ChatGPT in Hong Kong, prompting local AI development. In August, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued principles for generative AI in consumer apps, stressing governance, transparency, and data protection. The HKMA will hold senior management accountable for AI-related decisions, especially those affecting consumers.
