It is known that the head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Gary Gensler, who has become an undesirable person in the cryptocurrency industry, has received death threats
New documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) show that US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler received frequent death threats.
According to Bloomberg, one of the threats was in April 2022. An unnamed person vowed to find and hit Gensler, who is widely criticized in the crypto industry, with his decisions. The person, who called the organization, said, “I hope you all get security when you get out the door, because your heads need to be cut off. I’m going to shoot you. Gary, you swallowed the pill. You’re going to get killed, Gary. If I don’t kill you, someone else will,” he said. The person, whose identity was identified, was arrested by Florida law enforcement and taken to court, where he pleaded guilty.
Shortly after this incident, Gensler received another threat. This time, the search was conducted by a government official. It is known that this official worked for Customs and Border Protection, one of the United States' law enforcement agencies. Six months later, Gensler received threatening emails over several days. The subject line of one of these emails was "Geber." During the investigation, it was determined that this person lived in Australia. The prosecutor's office closed the case by deciding not to prosecute.
Gensler took office as SEC chairman in April 2021. The crypto industry was excited to welcome Gensler as chairman because he was initially well-versed in Bitcoin and blockchain technology and taught at MIT, but things did not go as expected. Gensler put pressure on the crypto industry. The SEC sued many exchanges and crypto projects under his chairmanship, imposing billions of dollars in fines. The dismissal of Gensler, who became persona non grata due to his hostile stance towards cryptocurrencies, is also a promising issue in the US election race.
