This malware is often called "Clipper malware". It intercepts data stored in the clipboard, mainly targeting cryptocurrency wallet addresses. When the user copies and pastes the wallet address to transfer cryptocurrency, the malware replaces the original address with the address specified by the attacker. If the user completes the transfer without noticing the change, the cryptocurrency will be sent to the attacker's wallet, causing financial losses.
The activity of this issue has increased significantly, especially on August 27, 2024, causing significant financial losses to affected users. The malware is often spread through unofficial applications and plug-ins, especially on Android and web applications, but iOS users should also be vigilant. Many users inadvertently install these malicious applications when searching for software in their native language or through unofficial channels, usually due to restrictions in their country.
Binance has blacklisted the suspicious address, informed affected users, shared details about its incident, and continues to monitor. To protect against this type of malware, users are asked to verify authenticity, double-check addresses, and use security software.
