Alpaca, a San Mateo, California-based company that provides a brokerage platform for stock and cryptocurrency trading, has received a $15 million investment from SBI Group. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate business expansion and expand its reach to corporate financial institutions in Asia for clearing and execution of U.S. securities.
Led by CEO Yoshi Yokokawa, Alpaca is a developer-first API brokerage platform that provides stock and cryptocurrency trading, real-time market data, and end-to-end brokerage infrastructure through modern APIs to support global businesses. The platform supports businesses in nearly 30 different countries, such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Thailand, and India.
Alpaca has raised over $120 million in funding and is backed by some of the industry’s top investors worldwide, including Portage Ventures, Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, Social Leverage, Horizons Ventures, Unbound, SBI Group, Eldridge, Positive Sum, Elefund, and Y Combinator.
