Cryptocurrency trading platform Kraken has requested a jury trial in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The U.S. SEC sued Kraken in the Northern District of California last November, asking the court to permanently prohibit the trading platform from further violating securities laws and seek to return its "illegal gains" and other civil penalties. In a court filing on Thursday, Kraken reiterated its position, denied that it had engaged in illegal conduct, responded to every allegation in the SEC's lawsuit, and put forward 18 other defenses. The exchange said it has never registered with the SEC because it has never been required to do so, and it is not an exchange, broker-dealer or clearing agent as defined by the Exchange Act.
