On September 13, Taiko published a post on X stating that the team is working on upgrading the rollup protocol based on Taiko to the new 1.9.0 version and preparing for Ontake (the first TaikoBCR protocol fork). Ontake can bring the following features to Taiko L2: - Enhanced L2EIP-1559: The base fee is adjustable in L1, and all relevant parameters will eventually be managed by L1's DAO; - Preliminary support for transaction reconfirmation: Block proposers can deterministically build multiple blocks without submitting old blocks to L1 first; - Batch support: Blocks can be proposed and proved as a batch, opening the door to proof aggregation, which will further reduce Gas costs; - Calldata for contract proposers: Proposers can use Calldata without signature verification. This means that when using Calldata to obtain data availability, the proposer can be either a contract or an EOA.
