On September 9, the company announced the new iPhone 16 at an event in California, which caught the attention of the brand's followers. Despite the criticism, the announcement at the event did not disappoint, attracting attention to the new iPhone 16 and the new Pro Max offering.
But have you ever wondered how much #Bitcoin! you need to buy an iPhone?
An interesting question that can be found out by comparing the price of the iPhone and the price of Bitcoin in the same period of time, to find out whether over the years we need more or less Bitcoin to buy a state-of-the-art mobile device. To do this, we will take price data from 2018 as a reference.
In 2018, the iPhone XS was released, the first iPhone with an OLED display on all models. It had a starting price of $1000. The equivalent at that time in Bitcoin was 0.16 BTC for a new iPhone.
The following year, 2019, the iPhone 11 came out, with a triple rear camera system. This device had a starting price of $700 dollars. In that year we were able to buy an iPhone 11 with 0.068 BTC.
The pandemic hit in 2020 and the iPhone 12 was launched, which was characterized by being the first iPhone with 5G connectivity. It came out at a price of $800 dollars. If we compare it to the price of Bitcoin at that time, we were able to buy one with 0.051 BTC.
In 2021, the iPhone 13 was released with improvements in the camera and performance. At that time, it had a starting price of $800 dollars. This year, Bitcoin reached $69,000 dollars, which is why, by converting, the iPhone would cost 0.018 BTC.
In 2022, the iPhone 14 was launched, a model similar to the iPhone 13, but with improvements to the camera and chip. It was launched with an initial price of $800 dollars. In that year, Bitcoin was not going through its best moment and reached lows of $15,000 dollars. For that reason, if we do the conversion, it comes to 0.042 BTC, a higher figure than the previous year.
The year 2023 arrived and the iPhone 15 was launched with a design similar to its predecessor and improvements to the chip. This new iPhone came out at a price of $800 dollars. In 2023, a strong market recovery was seen as a harbinger of the approval of the #ETF. in cash. Making the conversion, we have an iPhone 15 at 0.031 BTC.
And this year we have the recent launch of the iPhone 16 with much expectation from its community. This has a starting price of $800 dollars. Now we have a stronger Bitcoin, with the recent halving and investments from various institutions through spot ETFs. Thus, the price of the iPhone in Bitcoin is 0.014 BTC, considered the lowest BTC value of all years.
If these Bitcoin amounts were surprising, imagine if we compare them a few years back to the beginnings of Bitcoin. Back in 2011, the iPhone 4S was released, at a price of $400 dollars for the best model. Back then, to buy an iPhone, 162 BTC were needed, yes, 162 BTC!!! Today, that figure is equivalent to more than $9 million dollars, a not inconsiderable amount.
This huge difference between the Bitcoin you needed in 2011 to buy a new iPhone and the Bitcoin you need now is due to the fact that in 2011 Bitcoin was a new technology that was just becoming known, and the price of the asset was much lower compared to today.
Note how the amount of Bitcoin we need to buy an iPhone, most of the time, is decreasing because the price of Bitcoin is consolidating more, reaching new highs.
The trend tells us that if Bitcoin continues to rise and reach new highs, the amount of Bitcoin we would need in the future to buy an iPhone will be smaller. Perhaps with a small part of your portfolio in Bitcoin you can buy a new iPhone in a few years.
