[MakerDAO hopes to be compliant rather than centralized]
MakerDAO’s name change to Sky has caused concern among DeFi enthusiasts, but experts believe it is a necessary move.
On August 27, founder Rune Christensen announced that MakerDAO will be rebranded as Sky, the Dai (DAI) stablecoin will be upgraded to Sky Dollar (USDS), and the governance token Maker (MKR) will also be changed to SKY. The DeFi community is concerned about the new freezing feature of the USDS stablecoin.
IDA co-founder Sean Lee said this is not about centralization, but about compliance. The freezing function of stablecoins can prevent their illegal use and help USDS expand its functions to the global market.
In addition, Christensen mentioned in May this year the launch of a new stablecoin, PureDai, a fully decentralized and USD-pegged token, but it is expected to be launched in a few years.
