Recently, the Trump family’s social media accounts were hacked. Shortly after the details of their new DeFi project were exposed, these accounts suddenly began to be used to promote some fake cryptocurrencies.
On Tuesday night, LaraLeaTrump and TiffanyATrump’s X accounts were hacked and posted fraudulent messages promoting a fake cryptocurrency token that was said to be associated with World Liberty Financial, a new crypto project that the Trump family has been promoting.
The incident and its outcome
The hacker's operation method makes people feel that this is a carefully planned drama. First, the hackers announced a blockchain address and a token, and told people that this is the "only official" token of World Liberty Financial. They even sent a tweet using LaraLeaTrump's X account, talking about World Liberty's goals and their governance token $WL.
However, World Liberty Financial officials quickly responded to the incident and issued a warning on their social media X, telling everyone not to click on any links or buy tokens shared by those stolen accounts. At the same time, they are working on resolving the issue and reiterated the warning through the Telegram channel.
Although these fraudulent posts were quickly deleted and the X platform quickly blocked Lara and Tiffany’s X accounts, those users who followed up on these tweets out of FOMO may suffer certain financial losses.
Trump Family Crypto Project
It is reported that since Trump publicly expressed support for Bitcoin during his campaign, the Trump family has been actively promoting World Liberty Financial. The platform was previously called "The DeFiant Ones" and has now been renamed. Former President Trump has also endorsed it on social media.
At the same time, the timing of the hack is also interesting. The hack occurred just hours after CoinDesk reported details of the project. At the time, media reports said it was a DeFi platform focused on lending and that it planned to issue a token called WLFI.
While the project currently has no official launch date, the white paper reveals that Donald Trump, who is running for president, will serve as the “chief cryptocurrency advocate,” and his sons are expected to join the initiative and play important roles.
💬 Do you think that the hacking of the Trump family's crypto project was a hacking incident or a carefully designed event hype? However, this incident also triggered public reflection and discussion on the necessity of supervision of decentralized projects.
