Content is king, IP is supreme. In this era of information explosion and rapid development of generative AI, the power of IP will be everywhere. At the end of August, the on-chain IP protocol Story Protocol launched its first public testnet Iliad, which supports users to mint IP assets on Story Network and transform IP into liquid, programmable and ownable digital assets.

Recently, in an exclusive interview with Story Protocol co-founder Jason Zhao by Foresight News (Exclusive Interview with Story Protocol Co-founder: The Trillion-Dollar IP Market Needs to Be Reshaped), Jason Zhao elaborated on Story’s vision: “We are not the programmable intellectual property layer of the blockchain, we are the programmable intellectual property layer of the Internet. What is really important is not just putting media files on the chain, but also allowing every piece of content on the Internet to have software-based rules that dictate how others can obtain licenses, recreate and expand that intellectual property. It is also critical to allow creators to monetize their IP as training data in AI.”

With $140 million in financing, Story Protocol’s ecosystem interactions have also attracted much attention. Today, Foresight News will take you to a glimpse of the projects and interaction strategies that have been launched on the Story test network, and witness the development of this new IP digital ecosystem.

BlockBook

BlockBook is a user-generated content (UGC) platform focused on IP native. Here, partner brands and influencers can use the BlockBook platform to launch interactive competitions "Sparks" to encourage fans to create around specific topics; contributors can submit video, audio, image or text content, and then enjoy the fun of the content being displayed, while earning exclusive customized rewards and Creator Credits. Contributors can be writers, videographers, musicians, producers, poets, or AI Prompters, engineers, scientists, etc.

When a work is submitted, it is minted as an NFT and registered through Story Protocol, which can mark the IP. After submitting the contribution, users can seamlessly redeem IP assets directly into the MetaMask wallet, ensuring control and access to creative works.

Creator Points are the native currency in the BlockBook ecosystem, serving as a unified tool to reward users, contributors, and creators for their contributions to the platform. They also support in-app purchases, content enhancements, unlocking advanced features such as private messaging, and tipping.

Interaction strategy: Contribute to the "Sparks" competition. Currently, contributors can get 100 creator points for each submission. If they get the top three places, they can get more points rewards, USDC rewards, and BlockBook hoodies and other peripherals. In addition, creators can get 500 points for Spotlight, and 100 creator points for likes or comments.

Color Marketplace

Color is an IP marketplace built on Story that supports the purchase, sale, and trading of NFTs, IP assets, and licenses. Color aims to facilitate co-creation and remixing, supporting seamless building and expansion on the works of others while protecting creators' own creations.

Interaction strategy: mint Color commemorative edition NFTs, purchase NFTs, register NFTs as IP assets on the Profile page, and list NFTs or IP assets.

PIPERX

PIPERX, formerly IPX, was previously designed as a DEX and was rebranded as PIPERX in August, aiming to build on Story’s purpose-built IPFi infrastructure to provide a foundational liquidity layer for the programmable IP ecosystem.

PIPERX supports seamless trading of any ERC-20 token, including fragmented IP assets, royalty token stream income from top IPs, stablecoins, and other DeFi tokens.

PiperX also provides SDKs and APIs to enable other programmable IP applications to integrate IPFi.

Unleash Protocol

Unleash Protocol aims to simplify the registration, licensing and trading of IP assets, and enhance market liquidity and reduce investment barriers by fragmenting IP. Its key components include IPGE (IP Licensing and Fragmentation), IPCO (IP Launchpad), IP Studio (IP Approval Commitment) and IPFi.

Among them, IPGE (IP Generation Event) allows creators or artists to register their IPs. After registration, the Unleash team will conduct a minimum review, and then the IP can be IPCOed according to the sales structure submitted by the IP owner. Anyone can participate in IPCO to obtain IP property rights. In the future, Unleash Protocol also plans to support multiple sales methods such as Bonding curve and LBP.

After IPCO, IP is automatically split into ERC-404 tokens on IPGE. ERC-404 token holders are able to participate in the upcoming IP Studio, where they can have a say in decision-making as part of the IP owner. In addition, the profits from the use of the IP are shared with ERC-404 stakers, in proportion to their ownership share.

Unleash Market is also a money market that supports lending and borrowing of multiple assets. It is worth mentioning that the "Points" section has already appeared on the Unleash website, but there is no corresponding content displayed yet.

Interaction strategy: receive test coins, borrow and lend. Later, Unleash will support functions such as registering unique IP, issuing IP, and trading fragmented IP assets.

World

Sekai can be thought of as an AI storytelling platform that helps storytellers, artists, and fans co-create immersive, interactive stories through simple prompts (image, sound, and music generation).

Interaction strategy: Participate in the weekly storytelling competition and generate a story after providing the story idea and story type (although the author currently encounters a 500 HTTP error when creating it).

Mycelium Network

Mycelium Network is an all-in-one creative suite that enables easy creation, remixing and licensing of assets on Story Protocol and facilitates co-creation, easy creation of memes and visual content. Mycelium Network has also partnered with Mindblowon Studio, creators of the webtoon project Tahilalats, MINDBLOWON UNIVERSE, a cartoon IP from a virtual world.

The tools provided by Mycelium Network include IP registries, repositories, licensing, royalty modules and intellectual property lineage tracking, as well as an end-to-end solution for user authoring, including a style guide generator, editing tools and asset repositories.

Mycelium Network launched a closed testnet at the end of August, which is currently only accessible to partners. The first creative tool launched by Mycelium uses The Neighbours mascot to support the construction of a parody universe around The Neighbours mascot.
