Hacker Who Stole $234 Million From Stock Market Has Started Laundering Funds

The hacker who hacked WazirX, one of India’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, in July and stole $234 million worth of cryptocurrencies sent 2,600 ETH to Tornado Cash. The hacker(s) are believed to be from the North Korea-linked Lazarus group.

The person(s) behind the WazirX hack have started taking steps to launder cryptocurrencies and money. According to information provided by blockchain tracking and research company Arkham, the hacker(s) sent 2,600 ETH to Tornado Cash.

As you may recall, during the July attack, many assets were stolen from the WazirX exchange, including well-known cryptocurrencies such as PEPE, Shiba Inu, MATIC, and later, most of these cryptocurrencies were converted to Ether.

Withdrawals on the WazirX exchange have been closed since July 21. Tornado Cash, which is among the apps banned in the US and one of whose developers is in prison in the Netherlands, is known to be one of the most frequently used apps by crypto hackers, although it provides privacy for transactions. The hackers are believed to belong to the North Korea-linked Lazarus group.Lazarus made its name known to the world in 2022 when it stole $600 million worth of cryptocurrency from the Ronin sidechain. The US claims that Lazarus helped fund North Korea's nuclear research.
