The recent global expansion of the use of virtual currencies has been the subject of debate at the last three United Nations Internet Governance Forums (IGF), in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The capitalization and rapid geographic expansion of the use of cryptocurrencies have caught the attention of researchers and mobilized representatives of civil society and businesspeople in various parts of the world, who have shown interest in developing innovations driven by the expansion of the globalized use of this new type of economic activity. The main objectives of this work are: to analyze how the recent financial crisis of capitalism influenced the emergence and geographic expansion of the use of cryptocurrencies; to reflect on services and activities that use cryptocurrencies, bitcoin and blockchain; and to discuss the challenges posed by the growth of this use.#BTC #defi #bitcoin #ETH #Binance
