In an innovative leap, Sony Block Solutions Labs, in partnership with Startale Labs of Singapore, is set to introduce a new Ethereum layer-2 blockchain network named Soneium. This initiative marks a significant milestone as Sony continues expanding its digital finance and blockchain technology footprint.

Strategic Expansion in Blockchain Technology

Following a notable 10% profit increase supported by its gaming and music divisions, Sony is set to launch  Soneium project as noted by CryptoRand. The project aims to boost the utility of blockchain applications in entertainment, finance, and gaming. Sony Block Solutions Labs is currently focused on deploying the testnet for Soneium, with a mainnet launch date still to be announced.

Soneium noted via X Space that it is designed to support a developer-friendly environment that empowers creators and communities. This initiative aligns with Sony’s goal to support innovation through robust and scalable technological solutions. Moreover, the collaboration with Astar Network will integrate its zkEVM with Soneium for the testnet phase. The integration with Astar Network’s zkEVM for the testnet phase is a strategic move designed to enhance the blockchain’s initial liquidity by leveraging Astar’s assets and infrastructure.

Commitment to Digital Rights and Fair Profit Sharing

In addition to its blockchain developments, Sony has made efforts in digital finance. The company’s acquisition of Amber Japan and filing of a patent for a system designed to transfer and use digital assets across gaming platforms highlight its strategic direction.
