[ENS Labs and Denity collaborate to advance real-world credentials for Web3]

ENS Labs has partnered with digital identity verification provider Dentity to integrate verifiable credentials onto the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) chain. This integration enables ENS users to connect on-chain identities with real-world identities while controlling the scope of shared information, bringing far-reaching impact to the future of online identity authentication. Khori Whittaker, executive director of ENS Labs, said that this cooperation narrows the gap between on-chain and off-chain identities, allowing Web3 users to have real and verified digital identities without affecting decentralization.

Dentity founder Jeffrey Schwartz further pointed out that future blockchain users may not be native users of cryptocurrency, but services that require real-world identity verification, such as educational credentials, professional licenses and medical records. This integration will drive wider adoption of Web3 technology.

Nonetheless, ENS registrations have declined recently, with approximately 14,997 .eth names registered in July, down 25.5% from 20,131 in June. This demonstrates the importance of ENS' partnership with Dentity to make the ENS domain more attractive to a wider range of users.

In addition, on August 22, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin registered the "dacc.eth" domain for 0.187 ETH, which is about $500. This registration is related to his upcoming participation in an X Spaces event discussing "defensive accelerationism."
