According to TechFlow, on August 17, Optimism governance information showed that OP Labs protocol engineer Mofi released an upgrade proposal called Granite Network Upgrade, which aims to address security vulnerabilities found by Spearbit, Cantina and Code4rena in third-party security audits. Although these vulnerabilities have not been exploited and user assets have not been threatened, OP Labs decided to take preventive measures.

The proposal states that the upgrade will include a series of smart contract improvements to fix vulnerabilities found in the audit and an L2 hard fork to enhance the stability and performance of the error-proofing system. To avoid any instability that may arise during the patching process, the team has also launched a permission fallback mechanism.

If the proposal is passed, the Granite Network Upgrade is scheduled to be implemented at 16:00 UTC on September 10. The upgrade has been coordinated with Base and Conduit and tested on the internal development network and Sepolia Superchain.
