A typical Web3 developer makes a median salary of $128,000 in 2023.

According to a recent Pantera Capital survey, the highest Web3 engineer salary in North America is $166,610, followed by $102,226 in EMEA; $90,559 in Latin America; and $75,000 in Asia Pacific. The survey included more than 1,600 respondents from 77 countries, of which 40.1% worked in the decentralized finance sector, followed by centralized finance (26.1%) and blockchain infrastructure (15.2%).

Less than 2% of developers surveyed said they work full-time in a physical office space, while 10.6% said they work in a hybrid in-person/remote work environment. The remaining 87.8% said they work entirely remotely.

In the U.S., salaries for junior and mid-level Web3 developers have fallen by 4% to 8% over the past year to between $110,000 and $150,000. Meanwhile, senior developer salaries have increased by 1.5% to $192,585 over the same period.

Salaries for finance, business development, and product operations positions are reported to be similar. Web3 marketing and operations specialists are the lowest paid, with entry-level positions in this category making less than $66,000. As for Web3 executives, starting salaries in the U.S. range from $147,363 for seed startups to $335,400 for companies outside of Series C funding. Ninety-seven percent of respondents are paid in fiat currency, with the rest choosing to receive their salaries in crypto.

In addition to regular compensation, one in five respondents said they received token incentive packages averaging $50,000 from seed companies, and $130,000 from Series C+ companies. Such token incentives typically have a vesting schedule lasting more than four years. The Pantera data will be updated every six months, the company said.
