More than a million people tuned in to the Twitter Spaces interview on Tuesday morning (Vietnam time), as former President Donald Trump chatted with billionaire Elon Musk, with many in the crypto community expecting new industry-related statements.

Although the two discussed many familiar issues such as protecting the US southern border, Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, immigration and Vice President Kamala Harris, the former President did not mention Crypto.

Indeed, more than $4.8 million was wagered on Polymarket that Trump would mention various words, including “crypto,” with more than $800,000 waiting for a single mention. Crypto fans were disappointed, however — although other keywords came up in the conversation: “MAGA,” “illegal immigration,” and “tampons,” the last of which came up when Trump mentioned Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kalama Harris’s running mate, and a feminine hygiene product law he signed into law last year.

Listeners also did not hear the words “Tesla” or “Bitcoin” from Trump.

This is despite some in the industry calling for crypto to be recognized as a major political issue this year after Trump endorsed it three months ago. Trump is hoping for another shot at the White House in November.

The former president has courted crypto holders on the campaign trail, accepting crypto donations in May after suggesting he was “yes” to crypto during an event at Mar-a-Lago for holders of his Polygon-based NFT collection. In June, Trump specifically endorsed Bitcoin miners.

While crypto listeners were disappointed, many other listeners complained, ironically, about technical issues preventing them from accessing the interview recorded on Spaces – the platform’s live recording feature.

The anticipated conversation between X owner Musk and Trump began with Spaces being disrupted by a DDoS attack, Musk said.

Musk reported the outage to Twitter at 7:18 a.m. ET, saying the system had been tested with eight million non-concurrent listeners earlier in the day.

Musk suggested the interview would take place with a reduced audience, but after Spaces went live, the audience surpassed one million accounts.

Musk wants to join the Trump administration

Elon Musk has expressed interest in taking on a role in the Trump administration to help control spending, if the Republican presidential candidate wins.

“I think it would make a lot of sense to have a committee in government that looks at spending and makes sure that taxpayers’ hard-earned money is being spent wisely. I would love to be a part of that,” Musk said during the conversation.

In response, Mr Trump said he “would love” Musk to join his administration, noting that the billionaire is a “master cutter”, referring to the cost-cutting measures Musk has implemented at his companies.

In May, reports emerged that Mr Trump and Elon Musk had discussed a possible role for the billionaire in the administration if the former president were re-elected. However, Musk later denied the reports.
