Tigran Gambaryan’s Health Declines in Nigerian Prison
YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, has been held in Nigeria since February. His family claims that he has been denied access to his lawyers, making it difficult to prepare for his next court hearing on October 11. They say that his legal team hasn’t been allowed to visit him since July 26.

The family also filed a request to have his case heard during the court’s recess, but Nigerian authorities, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Crimes Commission, have not responded.
Gambaryan’s Health Worsens in Nigerian Prison, Family Claims Medical Neglect
Gambaryan’s health has declined significantly during his time in Nigeria’s Kuje prison. On July 16, he appeared in court in a wheelchair. Since then, the court has gone on break, delaying further proceedings until October.
His family reports that Gambaryan is now bedridden, suffering from multiple health issues. He has a herniated disc that requires surgery. Frequent throat infections and pneumonia have led doctors to recommend tonsil removal. Due to his limited mobility, Gambaryan is now on blood thinners to prevent clots.
The family also alleges that the prison has withheld Gambaryan’s medical records despite a court order to release them, complicating his situation further.
Family Pleads for Tigran Gambaryan’s Release as Health Deteriorates in Nigerian Custody
Tigran Gambaryan, who lives in Georgia, USA, is married to Yuki Gambaryan, and they have two young children—a 10-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. He last saw his family on February 24 before traveling to Nigeria for a meeting. Following a meeting on February 26, he was forced to surrender his American passport and has been in Nigerian custody ever since.

His wife, Yuki, has made a desperate plea to the Nigerian government to release her husband so he can receive the medical care he urgently needs.
“My husband Tigran left for a work trip nearly six months ago, and I have no idea when he will return. His health has deteriorated to a shocking degree and continues to worsen every day,”
she said.
Yuki shared that she found their five-year-old son crying on the living room floor. He said, “I miss my daddy.” He doesn’t understand why his father has been gone for so long. Yuki struggled to comfort him. Meanwhile, their ten-year-old daughter is trying to stay strong. But Yuki expressed how heartbreaking it is to watch her children go through this ordeal.
“I am begging the Nigerian government to release him so he can come home and get the medical treatment he urgently needs before it’s too late,”
Yuki pleaded.
The case has caught the attention of U.S. Congress members, who are urging President Joe Biden’s administration to take action.
