According to Odaily Planet Daily, the Japanese police department announced that the 48.2 billion yen Bitcoin theft incident involving DMM Bitcoin was carried out by the North Korean hacker organization TraderTraitor. South Korea has confirmed the criminal facts.

Through a joint investigation with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center, the perpetrator of the 4,502.9 BTC theft that occurred in May 2024 has been identified. TraderTraitor belongs to the Lazarus Group.

The police department will continue to work with international partners to investigate the illegal activities of North Korean hackers. The police department and other agencies have issued documents urging cryptocurrency businesses to be cautious.

DMM Bitcoin has decided to close the exchange, and assets and customer accounts will be transferred to SBIVC Trade, with the transition expected to be completed by March 2025.
