According to Cointelegraph, the UK government has launched a consultation with the artificial intelligence and creative industries to explore the legal framework for the use of copyrighted materials by AI models.

Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary Peter Kyle said uncertainty in copyright law was holding both industries back.

Policy options proposed by the UK include allowing AI companies to use copyrighted material without permission, or requiring permission in all cases.

Creatives have criticised the proposals, arguing they could cause irreversible harm to creators and calling for stronger transparency requirements.
