According to Cointelegraph, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee plans to confirm Caroline Crenshaw as a commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) before the Democrats lose their majority.

Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown has scheduled a vote for Dec. 18 after it was delayed by obstruction by Republican senators, possibly in part because of concerns about the cryptocurrency industry.

Groups opposing Crenshaw have called her more “anti-crypto” than SEC Chairman Gary Gensler for opposing a spot Bitcoin ETF.

Supporters worry that Trump may not nominate new commissioners, resulting in the SEC being completely controlled by Republicans.
