According to Odaily Planet Daily, the U.S. Senate's vote on the reappointment of SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw is still "pending determination." If the nomination continues to stall, Trump may choose Republican Paul Atkins to fill the vacancy.
According to regulations, if no one else is confirmed to take her position, Crenshaw can only serve at the SEC until January 2026. Trump announced earlier this month that Atkins is his chosen head of the agency.
Chair Gary Gensler and Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga plan to leave the SEC in January. The SEC can have a maximum of five commissioners, but no more than three commissioners can be from the same political party.
Tyler Gellasch, chairman of the Healthy Markets Association, stated that failing to confirm Crenshaw's reappointment could lead to the agency losing important momentum from various political perspectives. He warned that single-party control of the SEC could jeopardize the status of the U.S. market.
Senator Tim Scott opposed pushing Crenshaw and other Biden nominees through the nomination during the 'lame-duck' session, stating it hinders Trump's agenda.
