In light of Nigeria's plan to launch a blockchain platform, YellowCard co-founders Justin Poiroux and Chris Maurice evaluated the potential and challenges as governments integrate blockchain technology into public services.

Justin Poiroux stated that leading countries such as Ghana are focusing on digital identity management, fraud prevention and supply chain tracking. He highlighted lack of institutional knowledge, security, scalability and interoperability as the main challenges for governments to adopt blockchain.

Chris Maurice highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in Nigeria's blockchain strategy and argued that the government should allow private companies to implement technological solutions.

Nigeria's blockchain initiatives have noted the importance of universal smartphone access and the need to develop user-friendly interfaces to bridge the digital divide. Nigeria has launched the blockchain platform called “Nigerium” with the aim of promoting local innovation and self-sufficiency.
