Responding to a question from opposition MP Jose K. Mani in Parliament, Nityanand Rai, India's deputy home minister, said that from 2020 to April 2024, there were 92 cases of drug trafficking in India involving the dark web and cryptocurrencies. Data from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the competent authority for drug law enforcement, showed that there were 3 cases in 2020, 49 in 2021, 8 in 2022, 21 in 2023, and 11 in 2024 as of April. Rai also pointed out that in addition to other prevention methods, a special task force has been set up to monitor suspicious drug-related transactions, including those conducted using cryptocurrencies.
