Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff believes the future of artificial intelligence lies in autonomous agents rather than large language models (LLMs) in the form of AI chatbots, Cointelegraph reported.

Benioff said in a podcast with the Wall Street Journal that LLMs have reached a ceiling and consumers are misled into thinking AI is more powerful than it actually is. He believes that future AI advancements lie in autonomous agents, not LLMs like ChatGPT.

Benioff noted that Salesforce has automated customer service with pre-built AI agents, and he warned against overhyping AI’s capabilities, especially to solve global challenges.

OpenAI plans to launch an agent codenamed "Operator" in 2025, and Nvidia is also promoting enterprise adoption of AI agents.
