OpenSea: Can you tell us a little bit about your artistic style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?

Mariela Victoria: The core of my artistic style lies in a lifetime of painting, formed by extensive freehand practice, trial and error, and a constant exploration of color, influenced by the vibrant and playful color choices of artists such as Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, my work reflects a fusion of Pop Art aesthetics, and while some pieces display intricate detail and complexity, my more recent work often explores simplicity through iconic forms and visual themes.

OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT series or work?

Mariela Victoria: When I start a project, I usually start by identifying a theme, exploring current narratives and integrating personal experiences. This initial step helps me determine the subject matter of the artwork. Drawing inspiration from sources such as Taschen’s The Dictionary of Color and The Packaging Design Book, I delve into design books to understand visual techniques and conceptual ideas.

Next, I use Figma to organize my project flow and create a mood board, which serves as a visual guide to goals and timelines from ideation to completion. Moving to my iPad, I sketch out preliminary concepts and outlines before further refining them in Adobe Illustrator or Procreate, tools that offer dynamic features that are essential for bringing my ideas to life.

Throughout the process, I meticulously documented each stage of development, allowing me to evaluate and improve the work until I achieved a sense of completion. However, the creative journey was not without its challenges. I often encountered mental blocks and went through countless iterations, which was very taxing both physically and mentally. At times like these, I found it beneficial to temporarily disconnect, start over, and re-engage in a project with a fresh perspective.

This approach has not only facilitated the evolution of my artwork, but has also enhanced my understanding of when a work is truly completed.

OpenSea: Can you talk about any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, especially in the digital realm of NFTs?

Mariela Victoria: I see great opportunities in this field for me to become a digital artist because web3 reshapes the digital art landscape by giving artists freedom of expression, ownership, and transparency. Web3’s decentralized blockchain technology enables direct interaction between artists and collectors around the world, providing greater autonomy in setting terms and pricing.

However, adapting to web3 requires dealing with complex issues such as blockchain transactions and environmental impact while scalability and regulatory frameworks continue to evolve. Despite these challenges, I found that web2 platforms, while easy to access, often involve intermediaries such as galleries, limiting artists’ direct interaction with collectors and control over pricing.

OpenSea: What inspired you to create on Base? How do you think Base’s features will benefit your artistic expression?

Mariela Victoria: I’m committed to creating work that brings fun, bright, and fresh visuals to Base. Many amazing creators are looking to establish themselves on the platform, and I see the relative newness of Base, coupled with its low transaction costs, as an opportunity. Additionally, by bringing a unique style, I believe I can stand out and benefit from the future growth of this vibrant community.

OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you create art?

Mariela Victoria: Blockchain technology has had a significant impact on my art by immersing me in the meme culture of the web3 space. While web2 players may recognize some similarities, the nuances of web3 require active participation and staying up to date with the latest narratives. This dynamic environment has shaped my creative approach and has pushed me to stay engaged and innovative.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through NFTs on OpenSea? Are there interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?

Mariela Victoria: Whether you’re in Web3 for the artistic or cultural aspects, I think my art brings something to both sides, whether it’s elements of nostalgia and a colorful pop art style, or cultural references, I believe this dual approach makes viewing art an interesting and engaging experience.

OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you most, and how do you plan to incorporate these developments into your future projects?

Mariela Victoria: I’m looking forward to documenting the history of this space while creating my own IP and using color to connect and create meaningful art.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collectible?

Mariela Victoria: My advice to emerging artists in the NFT space is to immerse yourself in the community, interact with other creators, learn about the culture, and stay up to date with the latest trends. Authenticity is key - create what you love, let your passion show through your work, and don't be afraid to experiment and take risks.

Additionally, pay attention to the technical aspects of launching an NFT collection, such as choosing the right platform and understanding the importance of smart contracts and metadata. Building relationships and maintaining a presence in the community will help you grow and find your own unique place in the NFT world.

OpenSea: Where do you think digital art and NFTs will go in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?

Mariela Victoria: While it’s difficult to predict exactly where NFTs will grow in the next five years, I’m optimistic about their potential and I hope to contribute by engaging as many artists as possible and helping them share their voices and stories. By leading by example and cultivating a supportive community, my goal is to help artists find their tribe and thrive in the digital art space.
