According to Odaily, the 2024 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) report has been released by SlowMist, covering key regulatory policies, security incidents, and anti-money laundering trends. The report highlights several key points.
In the first half of 2024, there were 223 major security incidents recorded, resulting in a loss of $1.43 billion, a 55% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. The majority of these losses occurred on the Ethereum network, followed by Arbitrium.
Regulatory efforts have been intensified in mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Due to the complexity of cryptocurrencies, regulations involve financial stability, consumer protection, and anti-money laundering. As the market grows, strong regulation and international cooperation are crucial to address these challenges.
During the first half of 2024, Tether banned 374 ETH addresses, freezing all USDT-ERC20 within them. Circle also banned 28 ETH addresses, freezing all USDT-ERC20 within them. With the support of its internal partners at InMist, SlowMist froze approximately $24.39 million of stolen funds.
One of the main money laundering groups remains the North Korean hacker organization Lazarus, which continues to design increasingly complex money laundering methods.
