Antonia Perez Hernandez, the promoter of the crypto Ponzi scheme Forcount, has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, Cointelegraph reported.
In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Analisa Torres sentenced Hernandez to 30 months in prison after she admitted working with co-conspirators to defraud investors of approximately $8.4 million through Forcount from 2017 to 2021.
Hernandez apologized to the victims. Forcount's top promoter Juan Tacuri was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and Nestor Nuñez was sentenced to four years.
The U.S. Department of Justice said Forcount's founders and promoters falsely promised to double investment returns, but actually used victims' funds to pay other victims.
