The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to hold an extraordinary meeting at the Foreign Minister level tomorrow in Jeddah, addressing the intensifying situation in Palestine. The meeting will focus on Israel's military actions against the Palestinian people, including the alleged death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, and violations of Iran's sovereignty. According to reports in Dawn, the session is being convened in response to the escalating Israeli military operations in Gaza.
The OIC Secretariat revealed distressing statistics, indicating that over 40,000 Palestinians, many of them women and children, have lost their lives, with more than 91,000 injured. The destruction of 430,000 homes, along with critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, mosques, and other civilian structures, has displaced around 2 million Palestinians.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Turkey has announced that it will formally join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) this Wednesday, as confirmed by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
This urgent OIC meeting is seen as a significant step in rallying international condemnation of Israel's actions and bolstering support for the Palestinian cause during this critical moment.
