The creator of PUBG 'doesn't even think about' NFTs for the upcoming metaverse: Report
Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG, stated that his upcoming metaverse may integrate blockchain technology, but there are no plans for NFTs.
Brendan Greene, the creator of the online battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), has revealed plans to create a new generation of metaverse focused on gameplay called Artemis.
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are unlikely to appear.
Speaking with IGN on January 4, Greene said he 'doesn't even think about' bringing NFTs into the project currently being developed at his game studio PlayerUnknown Productions.
'I don't even think about [NFTs].'
The cryptocurrency industry has always supported NFTs as the best way to secure IP and assets in games across various gaming ecosystems, but Greene seems to disagree.
'Our concern is to bring the engine to a state where we can create everything in it, and then as I said, Game Two, we will experiment with ideas later, but really right now, not even thinking about that. Just creating some fun games is enough.'
Although NFTs may not appear in Greene's metaverse, he mentioned that blockchain technology could be integrated somewhere.
Greene said: 'Blockchain is an interesting financial tool, as a layer in the digital world [...] maybe some future versions of blockchain or hashing or that technology will be very interesting.'
