🧐Vitalik Buterin calls on Elon Musk to "cool down" in the H1B visa controversy
Recently, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin expressed his personal views on Elon Musk's heated remarks on the H1B visa issue. Vitalik believes that although freedom of speech is important, Elon may be a little too excited on this issue.
The cause of the incident is that Elon strongly supports the H1B visa on the social media X, which enables American companies to recruit workers from abroad.
He emphasized: "It is because of the H1B visa that I and many people who play a key role in SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of companies that enhance American competitiveness are able to stay in the United States." Then he made a tough statement: "You'd better reconsider your position, because I am ready to fight resolutely on this issue that you may not fully understand."
This statement has aroused a fierce backlash from conservatives, who believe that the H1B visa policy has exposed American workers to unfair job competition.
However, some have criticized Elon Musk for using his platform to suppress critical voices of his H1B visa stance, claiming that he has removed premium features from critics' accounts and raised public concerns about free speech.
In response, Vitalik said he recognized the importance of free movement of people and viewed it as a fundamental freedom. But he also warned against making extreme statements, which could be interpreted as censorship. He warned that frequent use of "banhammers" (the practice of deleting users or content) may have short-term effects, but could set a bad precedent, leading to power dominance replacing rational discussion as the new normal.
He also reminded everyone that such behavior could cause long-term divisions, like an indiscriminate "meme beast" that indiscriminately attacks newly emerging target groups. In response, Vitalik called on everyone to prioritize rationality in public discourse rather than let power dominate the debate.
💬What do you think about this? Is Elon too excited about the H1B visa issue? Or what do you think about free speech and rational debate in public discourse? Welcome to discuss!
