A reward for finding Ruja Ignatova, the 'Cryptoqueen,' has jumped to $5 million! Ignatova, a Bulgarian-born German, is wanted by the FBI for her $4.5 billion cryptocurrency scam, OneCoin. She has been missing since 2017, just before US officials were ready to arrest her.
Full Story : How this woman scammed the world, then vanished Recent BBC reports linked her to the Bulgarian underworld and a suspected mafia boss, hinting at her possible murder. But authorities aren’t giving up.
In 2022, the FBI added her to its top 10 most wanted list, offering $100,000, which later increased to $250,000. Now, under the US State Department’s Transnational Organized Crime Reward Program, the reward is up to $5 million.
Matthew Miller from the US State Department said, "We're offering a reward up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Ruja Ignatova, known as 'Cryptoqueen,' for her role in one of the largest global fraud schemes in history." Ignatova is the only woman targeted under this program.
German authorities have charged Ignatova, and Bulgaria plans to charge her in absentia. Jamie Bartlett from the BBC believes the reward hike is meant to tempt those protecting her to come forward. He said, "$100,000 wouldn’t persuade a junior member of a crime syndicate or a personal bodyguard to call the FBI’s hotline - it’s far too risky. But $5 million just might."
