About Horizen (ZEN)

Horizen is a privacy-focused decentralized network that emerged as a fork from ZClassic, itself a fork from ZCash (a similarly privacy-focused cryptocurrency). Originally called ZenCash, Horizen is represented by its legal entity, the Zen Blockchain Foundation, which uses zero-knowledge proofs (Zk-proofs) to ensure its users’ privacy.

When Horizen was in the midst of its rebranding from ZenCash in 2018, it set out to make smart contracts private. The platform went on to develop a decentralized network that would support private messaging, decentralized application (DApp) development, and publishing on private smart contracts.

Horizen’s network cryptocurrency, ZEN, is used for operations on its decentralized platform. ZEN price is updated and available in real time on Binance.

People Also Ask: Other Questions About Horizen

  1. What is ZEN Used For?

ZEN is used in the combined consensus model employed by the Horizen network. In the model’s proof-of-stake (PoS) aspect, ZEN tokens are staked in order for nodes to participate in network validation. ZEN tokens are then rewarded to validators via this model, as well as to miners in the proof-of-work (PoW) layer of the blockchain.

  2. How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work on Horizen?

The Horizen blockchain network’s design uses a combination of PoW and PoS consensus mechanisms. In this schsystememe, the process of network consensus is isolated to the PoW main chain, while transactions are processed on the PoS side chains.

  3. Who is the Horizen Founder?

Horizon was launched in May 2017 by co-founders Robert Viglione and Rolf Versluis, both former US military personnel with extensive experience in multiple fields of expertise. Viglione is a former physicist, mathematician, and advisor and project manager on the US Air Force.

Rolf Versuis is a nuclear weapons-trained veteran US Navy officer and long-time Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining business owner. The two started Horizen as a hard fork of ZClassic, which was itself a fork of ZCash.

  4. What is the Maximum Token Supply of ZEN?

ZEN’s total maximum supply is 21 million tokens — a mirror of Bitcoin’s maximum supply. At the time of writing, its total circulating supply is approximately 13.5 million tokens.

  5. How To Buy ZEN?

ZEN can be purchased directly from Binance using a debit or credit card. It can also be traded for other cryptocurrencies on the crypto platform. Live ZEN price is updated in real time on Binance. Additional ZEN price and purchase information is available in our How to Buy Horizen (ZEN) Guide.
