CertiK’s Path to Becoming a Web3 Security Pioneer: A Journey That Began With Binance Labs

2022-08-08

“The bandwidth shared by Binance Labs opens up our horizontal lines,” said Jason Jiang, VP of Business Development at CertiK. “All of a sudden, we can use Labs as a focal point, and all the other Web3 projects will come to us.”

Founded in 2017, CertiK is a blockchain security audit firm and one of Binance Labs’ earliest portfolio companies. It started with a small but mighty team, and its sales volume grew by a factor of 11 in the record-breaking year of 2021. CertiK has recently secured more than $310 billion worth of digital assets and detected over 60,000 vulnerabilities in blockchain code.

This advanced technical capacity is built on the foundation of countless security audits that the team performed. Handling massive volumes of security reviews, CertiK has not only honed its monitoring skills but also gradually solidified its presence in the crypto space.

Since Binance Labs’ initial investment in 2018, CertiK has been an active mentor in the Binance Labs Incubation Program, sharing its experience with Binance Labs and giving tips to early-stage Web3 projects.

“What we do is blockchain security, and it doesn’t put us into the ecosystem automatically as a service company,” Jiang said. “To get invested in by Binance Labs allows us to swim in the ecosystem.”

Binance Labs has been continuously collaborating with CertiK in auditing projects that span multiple regions. Three years ago, CertiK partnered up with Sandbox. It has since then conducted 20 to 30 security audits for Sandbox — a collaboration that opens the door for CertiK to penetrate not only into the BNB Chain ecosystem, but also public chains.

“Binance Labs grants us connections with various stakeholders,” Jiang said. “Our success is built on top of the success of Binance Labs.”

Having taken foothold far and wide across the crypto space and enjoying support from the all-encompassing Binance ecosystem, Binance Labs is committed to sourcing emerging Web3 projects and building up top-tier founders in diverse ways, providing capital, business advisory, and more. For applicants currently applying for Season 5 of the Binance Labs Incubation Program, Jiang said that they should “believe in the system of Binance Labs.”

“Binance as a whole includes everything a project needs, and it has already caught all the latest market trends,” he added. “Just follow the steps and go with it.”
