2020-09-26

To mark the opening of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, Binance Charity the United Nations Global Compact hosted the UNGC Global Impact Forum: Uniting Business LIVE, virtually convening leaders from business, government, and civil society to showcase their commitment to the UN’s mission.

Binance Charity is the sole representative of the blockchain industry in the event. Helen Hai, head of Binance Charity, made her remarks in an address titled “Building Sustainable and Resilient Healthcare Infrastructure for Our Shared Future." Helen shared with the global audience the huge advantages of blockchain in advancing healthy new infrastructure and sustainable development, shared Binance Charity’s successful practice in this field, and called on the private sectors to shoulder their responsibilities. When addressing what technology can do for today’s society, Helen points out that mankind is facing a unique period in history.

“We are witnessing a moment where we pivot from an industrial economy to one defined by technology. The use of technology can promote human rights, aid in the progression of humane assistance, and contribute to solutions of personal identification and human trafficking, and other major issues in the long term. The most exciting thing in this technological era is the birth of blockchain technology. The emergence of blockchain technology can help revolutionize the true value of freedom and help solve issues of trust, transparency, and inclusiveness,” according to Helen.

Blockchain has its specific advantages. For example it offers opportunities for all community members to own their own identities and be a part of community governance. It provides all parties and participants in general with a layer of traceability and global transparency, which inherently promotes the behavior and responsible use of resources. It guarantees precision in the surveillance of actions through the use of smart contracts, and validates the actions that occur within blockchain. All these benefits make blockchain the fastest, most economical, resilient, and fair technological solution for all the parties committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The use of blockchain technology as a tool, whether in parallel or superseding the existing systems, will contribute to economic liquidity acceleration, correct management of the financing, and monitoring of the actions being carried out.

Binance Charity: Showing How Blockchain Can Help Change the World

In the past two years, blockchain technology has been successfully verified as one of the best practices in the field of sustainable development, especially on humanitarian assistance and environmental protection issues. Blockchain technology provides an innovative solution for the charity donation model, achieving "end-to-end" and avoiding the transparent and credible donation form of middlemen. In addition, blockchain-based carbon sinks and green bonds make it possible to have an effective green financial system with reliable incentives and accurate monitoring and trading influence.

Binance Charity has been leveraging advanced blockchain technology to continuously promote the realization of sustainable development goals, and has always been at the forefront of global emergency appeal and fight against poverty. Since its establishment in 2018, Binance Charity has raised and managed almost 10 million U.S. dollars of funds from the blockchain industry and used these funds to support more than one million ultimate beneficiaries in underdeveloped regions.

In 2020, Binance Charity supported the "Sustainable Infrastructure to Help the Belt and Road Initiative and Accelerate the Realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals" action platform initiated by the United Nations Global Compact, and committed to supporting the ten principles of the UN Global Compact with respect to human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.

Blockchain’s Impact in 2020

2020 is an unforgettable year for all mankind. COVID-19 epidemic is raging around the world. During this pandemic, Binance Charity actively raised millions of dollars to help millions of people in 25 countries and regions on 5 different continents. To fight the pandemic, Binance Charity used the characteristics of blockchain technology to achieve peer-to-peer assistance. Undergoing a lot of pressure on transportation and successful deployment, Binance Charity cooperated with local blockchain companies and volunteers to open up the channel of love, and to deliver medical supplies to front-line medical staff.

Although blockchain technology is still in the infancy stage of exploring its application, as technology advances, we look forward to exploring the social value and social responsibility of new technologies with all private sector partners, participating in the construction of sustainable development, and joining hands To achieve a sustainable common future.

The era of data is booming, and blockchain technology is playing an important role in all aspects of everyday life. With the uniqueness of blockchain itself, it increases the possibilities of infinite innovative technologies.

Sandra Ojiambo (CEO of UNGC), Ibrahim Assane Mayaki (CEO of New Partnership for Africa Development Agency), Vuk Jeremic (President of Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development), Richard Edelman (President and CEO of Edelman), and Cherie Nursalim (Vice Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce) also shared their remarks in this forum.
