According to the Daily Planet, Reuters reporter Luc Cohen tweeted that Bureau of Prisons records show that SBF is currently being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). Judge Lewis Kaplan admitted in ordering SBF's detention that the prison was "not on anyone's list of five-star facilities." The Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center is located in New York City, USA, and holds more than 1,600 prisoners. It is controversial due to poor supervision conditions, medical and health issues. In 2019, New York Attorney General Leticia James filed a friend of the court brief in a lawsuit against the Bureau of Prisons, calling the living conditions at the MDC "unacceptable and inhumane." On August 12, a U.S. judge revoked SBF's bail, and SBF's legal team subsequently appealed.
