SpaceX accepted payment in Dogecoin for the launch of the DOGE-1 satellite into space
Geometric Energy Corporation has re-booked the launch of the DOGE-1 satellite to the Moon with SpaceX. The mission was fully paid for with the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.
Initially, the implementation of the initiative was planned for the first quarter of 2022. It was assumed that the 40-kilogram cubesat satellite would conduct spatial reconnaissance of the lunar surface.
Geometric Energy CEO Samuel Reed said the launch could take place as part of Intuitive Machines' IM-1 mission. According to the statement, its lunar lander is already loaded into the rocket's nose fairing.
The launch will take place from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The multi-day launch window will open on February 14th.
Reed clarified that in the event of a delay in delivery of the satellite by the manufacturer, DOGE-1 will join the future IM-2 program.
